Welcome
Hi, I’m Maeve Miller. I write novels and short stories spanning contemporary and speculative fiction, often inspired by music, everyday observation, and the occasional “what if?” that refuses to let go.
I’ve been writing for a very long time. I have a large container filled with handwritten first drafts, chapters typed on an old word processor and hundreds of notes, reflections, and song lyrics covering three decades (the box has that wonderful old paper smell). However, since January 2025, my ideas have taken on a life of their own. I have a growing collection of projects in development and I can’t seem to write fast enough.
My novel Death on the Common is a character-driven murder mystery with strong social class elements. Set in the fictional UK town of Brythgate in 1995, it follows Detective Harper as he investigates the murder of a bridesmaid in a close-knit community.
Credentials: BA (Honours) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. Plus a ton of hard earned life experience.
Accolades: I’m working on it.
I’m running a campaign on Booksprout for Death on the Common until June 10th 2026. Sign up and you can download a PDF or EPUB version of the book FREE, all you have to do is leave a review.
All my books are independently published on Amazon. For alternative publishers for my novels & short story collection, please click on the buttons below.

The summer of ‘95 is the hottest Brythgate has seen in years.
On the edge of town, the dry grass of Tipley Common hides a terrible discovery: the body of a young bridesmaid who vanished only hours earlier from a wedding reception at the local social club.
Detective Inspector Michael Harper has barely settled into his new post when the investigation begins. With quiet expectations gathering around him and assistance arriving from outside the town, Harper soon finds himself navigating a case far more tangled than it first appears.
In Brythgate, family ties run deep and old resentments linger close to the surface. The victim was known to everyone at the reception—the groom was her brother, the guests her neighbours, friends and rivals.
And somewhere among them is a killer who believes the truth will remain buried on the common.
